Confrontation between driver and Red Deer RCMP leaves one man dead

RED DEER, Alta. — Alberta's police watchdog is investigating a fatal shooting involving RCMP officers in Red Deer.

Mounties were responding to multiple driving complaints at around 9 p.m. Monday when they stopped a vehicle in the parkade at the Red Deer Hospital.

A confrontation with the male driver resulted in police fatally shooting the man.

No officers were injured.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
