RCMP investigating incident of child left on bus found wandering on highway

ST. PAUL – Police have confirmed they are investigating an incident that happened on Tuesday morning, where a young child was found wandering alone on Highway 881, near Township Road 582, within the County of St. Paul. 

The location is about a mile outside of the Town of St. Paul.

Lakeland Today previously reported that the child was forgotten on a school bus after morning drop-offs, and wandered from a yard. According to the St. Paul Education school division, the bus driver was relieved of his duties, and the division said it would cooperate with an RCMP investigation if one were to take place.

St. Paul RCMP say they received a report of a child found wandering on the highway at about 9:30 a.m.

"A concerned motorist had found the child and brought the child to the RCMP detachment," according to police. Outdoor temperatures at the time were well below -20C.

St. Paul RCMP have initiated an investigation into the incident and are asking anyone with dash cam footage on Jan. 18, between 8:45 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the area of Highway 881 and Twp Rd 582 to contact St. Paul RCMP at 780-645-8870, or any local police.

"As this is an ongoing investigation no further information is available at this time," according to RCMP.
