Wood Buffalo Mounties with the assistance of the RCMP Emergency Response Team have charged two men with several offences after searching a home in the Fort McMurray neighbourhood of Parsons Creek North. Last Thursday's search was part of a narcotics investigation that police say has resulted in the seizure of two loaded handguns, prohibited ammunition, approximately $15,000 in cash, and about five ounces of what they say is cocaine.
Daniel Carty, a 21-year-old resident of Fort McMurray, is facing a 12 charges including possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm,and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
Carty was held in police custody to appear before a Justice of the Peace. He has since been released from police custody and is to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Apr. 30.
Said Abdi, a 20-year-old resident of Edmonton, is facing 16 charges including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, careless storage of a firearm, possession of property obtained by crime, failing to comply with court orders, and possession of prohibited ammunition.
Abdi was held in police custody to appear before a Justice of the Peace. He was remanded into custody and is to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray later this week.
