RCMP vehicle involved in hit-and-run north of Okotoks

An RCMP crusier was damaged in a collision on Highway 2 north of Okotoks on Nov. 2.

There was a heavy police response on Highway 2 north of Okotoks, after a hit-and-run collision involving an RCMP vehicle took place this afternoon.

Fire crews were called at about 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 2 for the accident just south of Calgary city limits on Highway 2.

Cpl. Gina Slaney said RCMP attempted to stop a pickup truck.

"The truck slowed down and then rammed the police vehicle, and it fled into Calgary at a high rate of speed," Slaney said.

She said the incident is ongoing and that the Calgary Police Service is assisting as officers attempt to locate the pickup truck.

RCMP attempted to stop the vehicle after receiving a driving complaint for a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 2 near High River, Slaney said.

"The initial call came in of a driving complaint, and then (RCMP) tried to pull it over."

All lanes are open but traffic on northbound Highway 2 is slow.

No injuries have been reported as a result of the crash.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
