Cochrane Foundation gives back to the community

The Cochrane Foundation awarded 12 non-profits with $51,803 in grants this year at the March 28 meeting at Seniors on the Bow.

Recipients included the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation, Bow Valley Habitat Development, the Cochrane & District Agricultural Society, the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, the Cochrane & Area Victim Services, Cochrane Ecological Institute, the Cochrane Legion Cenotaph project, Helping Families Handle Cancer, Helping Hands Society of Cochrane & Area, STARS, Spirit Wind Stepping Stones Foundation and Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

Three medical students – third year University of Calgary student Camille Adams who is studying veterinary medicine, St. George’s University student Karyssa Bowron who is studying medicine, and University of Calgary student Jeff Lees, who is in his second year of veterinarian studies – received the Dr. George McQuitty Memorial scholarship.

This year the Cochrane Foundation received a record number 28 applications requesting approximately $300,000.
