Help animals in need and cozy up with a good book
The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is hosting its first public event since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The non-profit is hosting a Thanksgiving Book Sale on Saturday (Oct. 10) and Sunday (Oct. 11). The event will take place in the Rehabilitation and Education Centre located behind the main building from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. on both days. COVID-19 regulations will be in effect at the event, so social distancing and masks must be practiced. The Humane Society is accepting book donations for the event. Books can be dropped off at the main entrance from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. between Oct. 1 and Oct. 6.
Blessing of the Animals
The Mount St. Francis Retreat Centre is hosting the Blessing of the Animals. Bring your furry friend or a token of your pet and receive a blessing from one of the Friars at a special ritual held outdoors on the facility’s grounds. St. Francis gave special consideration to all creatures, referring to animals as our brothers and sisters. The Mount St. Francis Retreat Centre is located just north of Cochrane on Township Road 261A, just east of the Cochrane Cemetery. The centre and its members have practiced in this location since 1949.
Taste of Cochrane returns
The Taste of Cochrane is back on with COVID-friendly regulations in place. The event will run during Small Business Week, from Oct. 16 to 24. This year, there will be no tickets to purchase. Each participating business has generously donated a $25 gift certificate that can be won as a prize. In order to be entered into the draw to win, each participant must take a selfie inside one of the participating businesses, or send a picture of their receipt, to post on the Taste of Cochrane Facebook Page. There are roughly 20 gift cards up for grabs, and every visit to a participating business will count as a new entry.
