Outbreak declared at Rocky View Schools
The presence of COVID-19 at Rancheview School has officially been declared an outbreak by Alberta Health Services medical officer of health, as a second case has been reported. The first case was reported on Sept. 26. Public Health staff is investigating who else may have been exposed to COVID-19 at the school. A letter from Alberta Health Services notes the risk of the general population in the school becoming infected is low. Public Health will be contacting those considered to be at risk of having close contact with the infected person directly for a follow-up. An outbreak is declared if any school in the province has more than two cases within a 14-day period.
Cochrane Ideas Group hosts first speaker in eight months
Following an eight-month hiatus, the Cochrane Ideas Group is back and ready to host speakers once again. On Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Frank Wills Memorial Hall, author Mansoor Ladha, will give a talk regarding his experience being an Indian-born man first living in Tanzania, and later, Canada. Born in Africa in 1943, Ladha was one of thousands of people forced out of East Africa during the early 1970s for being of Indian ancestry. Ladha is a renowned journalist and two-time published author. COVID-19 protocols will be observed at the event.
Cochrane Ag Society offering shelter to animals
A forest fire burning roughly 20-kilometres west of the hamlet of Benchlands, which sits 30-kilometres northwest of Cochrane, has prompted officials to declare a state of emergency in the Municipal District of Bighorn. The Cochrane Ag Society has offered to shelter any animals that have been affected by the fires. The Cochrane Ag Society is a designated animal emergency centre and is well equipped to care for the animals. The society has also offered help with evacuation efforts as well. Anyone with animals affected by the fires is asked to call 403-909-3250.
