Rocky View Schools has announced Fireside School will not be open this September.

Parents will have to wait an extra two months to send their children to Cochrane’s newest school with the new opening date announced for Nov. 14.

“While disappointed about the construction delay, Rocky View Schools is committed to making the transition for our students a positive experience, ” Greg Luterbach, superintendent of school said in a press release.

The delayed opening was announced on April 28 due to construction delays.

The students that originally planned to start at the K-8 School, located in the Fireside community, will now be accommodated at Mitford School and Cochrane Christian Academy for the 10-week period with classrooms taking place in the modular units, northeast of the school building.

Officials are calling it a “school within a school. ”

“Similar to the logistics set-up for the late opening of RancheView, Fireside students also will have access to the core school building, while gym space will be rented in the community, ” Luterbach explained.

Fireside students will not be charged transportation fees until they are in the permanent school and parents wanting to access before and after school care will be able to do so at the temporary location, according to Rocky View Schools.

For more information, officials are hosting a parent information night on May 9 at 7 p.m. at Mitford School.
