The 19th annual Outhouse Races promises to deliver on entertainment this year.

The poop-scootin' good time, hosted by Karrie Peace of the Heavenly Outhouse, has opened up registrations and is looking for the likes of 20 latrines on wheels to square off and vie for titles of the most outlandishly dressed and who can beat the clock at the Sunday, Aug. 25 family-fun event that takes over the streets of Historic Downtown.

"We've added the Mayor's Challenge this year to take on other mayors in the region," explained Dan Kroffat, local retired celebrity wrestler and philanthropist who co-emcees the event with retired Stampeders running back Jon Cornish.

Mayor Peter Brown of Airdrie has confirmed he will take on Cochrane Mayor Jeff Genung, with invites also extended to Premier Jason Kenney and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi.

"I just think it's interesting that the Mayor of Airdrie is stepping up to the challenge," said Genung, who isn't intimidated by rumours that Brown is getting the Airdrie Thundercats to pull his weight – as Genung is in cahoots with local tech giants 4iiii to build him a rocket ship of a porta potty that is sure to leave Brown in the dust.

"Rumour also has it that Guthrie wants to take on Richards," said Kroffat of Cochrane's MP Blake Richards and MLA Pete Guthrie.

And Genung is working hard to ensure blood is not shed – given last year's failings with Coun. Tara McFadden broken pinky finger and Coun. Pat Wilson nearly spraining an ankle.

Kroffat said this is the first year the event will be pushed up a month – to better navigate the possibilities of frigid latter September weather.

All funds, with a goal of $25,000, will go toward the Girl Guides venture to rebuild their Camp Jubilee playground that was wiped out in the 2013 flood.

Just last month a Community Builders Gala honouring Alex Baum, Rotarian and owner of Cochrane Toyota, raised a whopping $75,000 for the Girl Guides' cause.

Outhouse entry is by donation and this year the participants are encouraged to crowd fundraise and dole up their dollars to the Camp Jubilee project.
