The Cochrane Eagle is asking candidates an issue-based question each week leading up to the election that they will answer in their own words. If a candidate does not answer a question, we will include a bio box with a disclaimer saying the candidate did not respond. All candidates were given a limit of 185 words and questions will be edited to fit that length. Our third question is:
How do you plan to address the town’s growing traffic congestion?
We all get frustrated as traffic congestion steals time from our lives.
As Cochrane grows, our traffic changes. We need to find better ways to get around via cars, transit, walking and biking. Council has kick-started the solutions and nearly half of Cochrane’s 10-year plan targets transportation projects.
I will champion real solutions like the Bow River Bridge, Centre Avenue railway underpass, and pedestrian crossings at Horse Creek Road and downtown, which are in the works.
Internal solutions are only part of it. Successful pressure on the province has led the 22/1A to be scheduled for a 2019 upgrade and I’ll continue to push the province toward widening highways 1A and 22.
I’ll continue to fight for complete communities that have their own shops, services and schools, reducing the need to travel and making Cochrane walkable.
It reduces our stress if we know that improvements are coming.
We need to communicate better, which is why I want to create a public town committee to provide input and keep you informed.
Cochrane is our home. I’ll keep working for what matters to you.
