Two-term Town councillor Marni Fedeyko announced her re-election campaign in late August, adding her name to a growing list of candidates that include the vast majority of the current council who are seeking re-election.
“I’m seeking re-election because I believe there’s still important work to do in Town Council,” Fedeyko wrote in a statement on her re-election website. “I believe in leadership that listens, leads with integrity, and reflects the values of Cochrane. If you value responsible, transparent, and community-focused representation, I’d be honoured to have [the voters] support.”
First elected to council in 2017, and then re-elected in 2021, Fedeyko–formerly a founding member of the online news site Cochrane Now–has centred her re-election bid around three key ideas: accountability, community, and transparency–or A.C.T., as her campaign calls it.
“I believe in careful budgeting, clear priorities, and holding both council and administration to high standards,” Fedeyko stated. “Cochrane families deserve to see real value in every decision we make.”
Fedeyko’s campaign stated that community is at the heart of everything she has done as a councillor. “That means actively listening to residents, showing up, and ensuring your voices are heard,” her campaign material states. “I’m committed to making decisions that reflect Cochrane’s unique values, support local families and businesses, and help our town grow in the right way.”
“Transparency is about trust,” Fedeyko states. “[Cochranites] deserve open, honest, and straightforward communication from [their] elected officials. I’ll continue to push for clear updates, two-way dialogue, and greater accountability at Town Hall so [they’re] never left in the dark.”
Fedeyko, Tara McFadden, Alex Reed, and Patrick Wilson are all running for re-election to council, while Morgan Nagel is running to replace incumbent Jeff Genung–who is also running for a third term–as Cochrane mayor.
Cochrane’s municipal election is scheduled for October 20.
