COCHRANE, Alta. — Two homes have been evacuated as a grass fire in southern Alberta closed businesses and shut down traffic on a provincial highway.
Cochrane RCMP say the fire is burning along Highway 1A northwest of Calgary.
Traffic has been stopped along the highway west of the community of Cochrane.
Mounties say reduced visibility from smoke has caused a collision between two vehicles.
They say the fire is moving east and emergency crews are monitoring the situation.
Both the Ghost Station Gas Bar and the Wild Cat Gas Plant along Highway 1A have also been evacuated and closed.
Police are asking drivers to avoid the area.
