As wildfires continue to impact communities across the province, Counselling Alberta in conjunction with Calgary Councelling Centre is providing barrier-free mental health support to all Albertans affected by the crisis.
Communications and Marketing Associate Jenna Forbes from Counselling Alberta, and Calgary Counselling said that people can now dial 211, press 6 and it will give them a direct referral for immediate support at all times.
“We partnered with the Alberta government this year to make it easier for people to contact us if they need help just with the wildfires and everything that's going on,” Forbes said.
Forbes said that people can still reach Counselling Alberta like they normally would through their website www.counsellingalberta.com or by calling, however, this new feature makes it easier to access instant care for Albertans struggling at this current time.
All of Counselling Alberta’s fees are based on a sliding scale that’s dependent on an individual's income.
Their services are accessible to all Albertans, regardless of their location, offering in-person counselling in six cities, including Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Grand Prairie, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, and Red Deer, as well as virtual sessions across the province to accommodate the needs of those who may be displaced or unable to travel.
“We know that mental health support is needed now more than ever, and by providing our services across the province, we’ve made it easier for Albertans to access effective and barrier-free mental healthcare without a waitlist,” says Dr. Robbie Babins-Wagner, CEO of Counselling Alberta, and Calgary Counselling Centre.
