Two people from Calgary died following a crash on Highway 22 south of Longview on April 30.

Two people are dead following a head-on collision south of Longview.

RCMP from Nanton and Claresholm responded to the crash on Highway 22, north of Highway 520 in the M.D. of Ranchlands, at approximately 6 p.m. on April 30, RCMP said.

Police said it appeared that a southbound vehicle may have crossed the centre line and collided with a vehicle travelling north, and that weather and road conditions may have been a factor in the crash

The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 38-year-old male resident of Calgary, was declared deceased at the scene, police said.

A 72-year-old woman from Calgary that was a passenger in the northbound vehicle died at hospital and the driver has serious injuries, police said.

Highway 22 was closed while emergency crews responded.

RCMP say their investigation continues and offer condolences to the family and friends of both deceased and the injured male.
