Man charged with firearm offence in Chestermere after discharging shotgun

A Chestermere resident is facing firearm charges after discharging his shotgun in front of a house in the Rainbow Falls neighbourhood of Chestermere.

According to a police media release, the Chestermere RCMP responded to the report of someone firing off his firearm near a residential home on Feb. 18 at approximately 11 a.m.

RCMP conducted an investigation and as a result, obtained and then executed a search warrant at a Chestermere residence on Feb 26. RCMP Emergency Response Team and Forensics Identification Unit assisted with the warrent.  

Daniel Jones (19) was arrested and has been charged with careless use of a firearm, mischief over $5,000, unauthorized possession of a firearm, disguised with intent to commit offence, and possession of a firearm when knowing its possession is prohibited.

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Jones was remanded into custody and will appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Strathmore on March 1.
