Peavey Mart likely closing in Airdrie

Local residents are disheartened to see Peavey Mart in the City of Airdrie close.

Local residents are disheartened to see Peavey Mart in the City of Airdrie close.

Sources tell the Airdrie City View that the company recently provided employees a 12-week notice of closure, without specifying an official closure date.

A Retail Insider article also confirmed that Peavey Mart is closing nationwide; liquidation sales began over the weekend.

“I’m sad to see that the store is closing… I really like Peavey Mart anywhere,” said Cremona resident Judy Cawley, who was shopping at Airdrie’s Peavey Mart on Jan. 27.

At one point in her life, Cawley shared she owned an acreage and this would be one of the stores she’d visit for tools and other necessities.

“It’s like in any place, you watch your prices, but [at Peavey Mart], I’ve been happy with [the prices],” Cawley said.

Thomas Zurbruegg, another customer at Airdrie Peavey Mart, shared similar sentiments.

“It’ll be sad to see Peavey Mart close,” he said. “It is one of those places… I always come here whenever I need something random or whatever I needed for the acreage.”

To Zurbruegg, it feels like the store has just opened and now it’s gone.

“It is a good place to go somewhere local in town.”

Last week, in a media release dated Jan. 21, the President of Peavey Industries, Doug Anderson, shared that the closures of Peavey Mart in Ontario and Nova Scotia were a result of adapting to the changing market dynamics.

Anderson said that the Canadian retail environment has experienced significant disruption in recent years, and Peavey Mart has faced its share of these challenges.

By April 2025, it was reported that 22 of Peavey Mart locations were meant to close. However, the media release has since been taken down.

The store closures include the flagship location in Red Deer-- the company’s headquarters.

There are a total of 90 Peavey Marts across the country, including several locations in Alberta. The store is known to sell a variety of agricultural, automotive, hardware and outdoor products.

The company has strong ties to Canadian retail, and dates back to its establishment in 1967 in Winnipeg.

Although the company has not officially confirmed its nationwide closure, social media posts and a notice posted outside the Airdrie’s Peavey Mart indicate that all items are on sale, and that no returns will be accepted.
