Reports of a stolen Toyota 4Runner led RCMP to a Rocky View County property that police believe was being used as a chop shop.
The Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (SACRU), an RCMP department, was tipped off by the Calgary Police of the possible location of the stolen 4Runner on a rural property on Range Road 285 near Highway 1 on Thursday, Dec. 2.
There, police found eight stolen pickup trucks, two stolen SUVs, a Cat Skid Steer, one flat-deck utility trailer with skid steer attachments, a small utility trailer, one Arctic Cat side-by-side and one Honda quad.
In total, RCMP said between $550,000 and $600,000 worth of vehicles was recovered.
Two vehicles recovered had been chopped to the point of no repair and one pickup had its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) changed. The other seven vehicles, however, were still in excellent condition.
Two of the recovered vehicles were found to have been stolen during testdrives from Calgary dealerships.
Charges have yet to be laid and the Calgary Police Service Auto Theft Team, Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit and the RCMP Auto Theft Unit continue to investigate.
