The restaurant at Saskatoon Farm near Okotoks remains closed following an illness outbreak last month, but the rest of the site is open.

More than 100 cases of E. coli have been linked to an outbreak at Saskatoon Farm near Okotoks.

Alberta Health Service has identified 107 probable E.coli infections related to the outbreak that was detected last month, according to an update on Aug. 15.

Entamoeba histolytica infection has been identified in 68 of those cases, AHS said.

Entamoeba histolytica can cause amoebiasis and may not result in immediate symptoms but can lead to serious illness.

Health officials say testing is ongoing and case totals are accurate as of Aug. 14.

Four people have been hospitalized in relation to the illness outbreak. Three have been discharged, but one remains in hospital.

Lab testing identified other pathogens, including norovirus and rotavirus, but it is not known if they can be linked to the investigation, AHS said.

Norovirus and rotavirus are common viruses associated with gastrointestinal illness.

Alberta Health Services launched an investigation at the Saskatoon Farm after people reported illness after eating or drinking at the venue’s restaurant last month.

The restaurant and other food service facilities at the farm remain closed following an AHS order.

Other areas of the farm are open.

Health officials say the restaurant will be allowed to reopen when all conditions noted in the closure order have been met to the satisfaction of AHS Environmental Public Health.

The facility’s water source is thought to be the source of the outbreak and Saskatoon Farm is now using a different water source that is confirmed by health inspectors to be safe.

Saskatoon Farm is an attraction south of Calgary with a farmers’ market, U-pick orchard, shopping and a restaurant.
