The post-Labour Day tradition of Back-to-School was experienced a little different at some schools in Cochrane. Students at Mitford School, a grade 5-8 middle school, were given a staggered start time, meaning the school would not be at full capacity at 8 am on September 2. Instead, it was a slow morning as students were dropped off in small waves.
As the 2025-2026 school year begins, it is not without a fair amount of uncertainty. A looming government lockout of teachers across the province, coupled with an embattled book ban handed down by the government--that was paused earlier today--has made the start to this school year anything but ordinary.
