A showcase of the finest art pieces by the minds and hands of local artists can be seen at the Foothills Art Club 2023 Fall Art and Show Sale on Oct 14.

The show and sale will take place at the main hall of St. Andrews United Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be completely free to the public to attend. Jeff Mackenzie, president of the Foothills Art Club, said with over 30 members in the art club, visitors will experience a wide range of artwork.

“We should have a good selection of artwork, paintings in oil and acrylic, and water-colours,” MacKenzie said. “And then there’ll be some pastels, drawings, visual arts, and then we have a little display area with cards available and small works in the boutique area; so there’s something for all kinds of price ranges. And if people aren't in buying, we’d (still) love to see them come out and enjoy meeting the artists and whatnot.”

With a variety of different artists who tackle different themes, Mackenzie added that there will be a mixture of different pieces.

“There’s everything from abstract, realism, portraits, landscapes, and still-lifes,” he said. “There’s a really good variety of things to see and a fair number of animals, local animals, and horses and everything of course, because this is Cochrane.”

With unique artists and styles from every member of the art club, Mackenzie said there is something totally original about each piece.

“It’s unique to each artist and that’s the wonderful part, that is you can buy a piece of art that is totally original and it’s always interpreted differently,” Mackenzie said. “If we have a workshop or demo for our members and everyone is working on the same scene or subject matter, you’ll never get two of the same, so there’s a lot of personality and feeling that people can put into their art.

“So that’s kind of the fun part for me as an artist.”

Mackenzie said the art club always loves putting on shows and sales in the community. With many dropping by to purchase pieces, admire the art, or meet the artists themselves. He said it is always great to see the club connect with the community.

“We love to see people come by and enjoy the art and we see a lot, or people come to every one of our shows, and that’s very rewarding because they enjoy it, and we enjoy seeing them,” Mackenzie said. “But it’s always nice to see the new people too.”
