“Obviously our dancers and our instructors, our admin team, but also our parents and our families have really jumped in,” she said. “It really does take a village to put on a production like this.”

Snap Dance Studio presented the "Nutcracker" on Dec. 2, and will do a two more performances on Dec. 9.

As the holiday season approaches, Snap Dance Studio is set to present a unique twist on the classic nutcracker story.

“We’ve put our own spin on it,” said studio director Alison Stutz.

The show already had its first run on Dec. 2 and will have a second show on Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The performance will be presented at RockPointe Church located in Bearspaw.

With over 130 local performers, the recital will showcase a multitude of dance styles, including ballet, hip hop, contemporary, jazz, tap, and acro.

“A bit different than [what] you would see at other nutcracker performances,” said Stutz. “It’s a huge cast of our dancers.”

According to Stutz, preparation for the show begins in the spring with lead roles starting the rehearsal process in the summer.

The show consists of two casts, each performing at different times in the day with the routines remaining consistent, confirmed Stutz.

“It really gives the kids something to look forward to,” she said. “They love being on stage, so this is just one extra opportunity for them.”

As the show looms closer to opening night, Stutz said the energy remains high amongst the performers.

Stutz added the studio provides several opportunities for their students to perform. She said they go travelling and compete in dance competitions.

“We love giving the kids different types of performance opportunities,” she said. “We would love to have as many community members [as possible] in Cochrane come out to watch the show.”

With community being a core value of the studio, Stutz said it is exciting for them to be involved and give back in any way they can.

Recognizing the magnitude of the production, Stutz said the community has come together to make the show a reality.

“Obviously our dancers and our instructors, our admin team, but also our parents and our families have really jumped in,” she said. “It really does take a village to put on a production like this.”

Stutz said they are thankful for the help and for the community sponsors who have shown support for the upcoming performance.

The total run time for the show is two hours. Those wishing to attend the show can purchase tickets at www.snapdancestudios.com. Stutz said tickets will be sold at the door pending online ticket sales.

“The kids and our team have put in a lot of hard work, and we’re excited to show it off,” said Stutz.
