Bragg Creek Performing Arts has a busy 2018 Spring Season schedule that will begin with Laila Biali and children’s performer Fred Penner on March 24.

LAILA BIALI

Following her graduation from Humber College in 2002, Biali moved to New York City to perform in the Big Apple’s music scene. She was about to return home to Vancouver when Gordon Sumner, or otherwise known as Sting, hired her as a backup singer for one of his tours. Baili’s studio recording titled Tracing Light, received a JUNO nomination in 2011 for ‘Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year’ and in 2015, Laila released her first album entirely of original music. The album is called House of Many Rooms, where she has lyrics that reflect love, loss and hopefulness. She has been described as a breathtaking in her vocal range with sweet, clear vocals and outstanding piano play.

She is also the host of Saturday Night Jazz, a national radio show launched by the CBC in September of 2017. Laila will be playing hooky from that show to bring her energetically entertaining live performance to Bragg Creek.

Tickets for her show at the Bragg Creek Community Centre available on www.ticketpro.ca and are being charged at $30 for adults and $28 for seniors.

FRED PENNER

Penner will entertain crowds during a matinee performance at 2 p.m. before Laila Biali hits the stage for the nightcap.

A gentle giant with kind eyes and an undeniable ability to make you feel good about yourself, this musical master brings 45 years of commitment, consistency and depth to a career that skillfully blends the many genres of performing and communication.

His diverse repertoire includes a prolific 12 children’s albums; countless energetically packed live shows for throngs of eager audiences across North America. The two-time Juno crawled magically out of that hollow log for 12 seasons and more than 900 episodes in the hit CBC TV show Fred Penner’s Place receives fan mail to this day from some of the 55 million viewers.

Tickets for Penner’s matinee are also available on www.ticketpro.ca and are priced at $24 for adults and $14 for children ages 2-17.

MATTHEW AND JILL BARBER

Jill Barber has garnered more than 30 award nominations including 2 JUNO Awards and has won the East Coast Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards and Nova Scotia Music Awards multiple times and was also the recipient of Jazz Artist of the Year from Sirius XM Radio. She has also authored two best-selling children’s books.

Matthew Barber has become one of Canada’s most respected and admired singer songwriters. Like his sister, Barber has been nominated for multiple awards, including a JUNO. Through his eight albums, he has stayed close to the folk and roots style.

With the opening of singer-songwriter Martin Kerr, the Barber siblings will be at the Bragg Creek Community Centre on May. 5. Tickets are $42 for adults and $40 for seniors. Those interested can find them on www.ticketpro.ca.
