With Halloween all wrapped up, the month of November usually means snow fall and colder weather. There are a number of events throughout the duration of the month to keep you busy before the holiday season. NOVEMBER 3 The month kick starts with a pair of events on Nov. 3. At 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., the Cochrane Art Club will be hosting its fine arts sale at the St. Andrew's United Church. Admission is free for those who would like to attend. Later in the day, the Alberta Institute of Wildlife Conservation (AIWC) will be hosting its Winter Hunters on-site talk from 1 to 3 p.m. While some animals choose to sleep through the winter, others spend the winter months wide awake – and hungry. Discover how local predatory species overcome the wintry conditions in order to track down their next meal, what’s on the winter menu, and the challenges they face in the wild. A tour of sections of the AIWC facility will follow this presentation. NOVEMBER 9 AND 10 There will be a Wilderness, Wildlife and Human interaction symposium at the Cochrane Ranchehouse on both Nov. 9 and 10. The first speaking is titled New Vision: Changing the Paradigm while the following is called An Ethnographic Approach to Wildlife Conversation hosted by the Cochrane Research Institute. On Nov. 10 will be the monthly Clubehouse Art Walk from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clubhouse located at Historic Cochrane Ranche. Local artists show and sell their work, giving Cochrane and area art lovers the opportunity to meet the artists and learn about their creations. NOVEMBER 17 AND 18 On Nov. 17, there will be two exciting events taking place around town. To start off the day, there will be the Beaupre Community Christmas Craft sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Beaupre Community Hall just 15 minutes west of town. This free event will feature food concession and plenty of vendor tables. We will welcome Christmas to Cochrane with the annual Cochrane Light Up on First Street from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Claus, shopping area for kids, ice carvings and hayrides. Free hot dogs and hot chocolate around the fire pots, but donations are gratefully appreciated to cover the costs.There will also be Christmas carols and children’s activities. What better way to add festivity to the holidays! Santa courtesy of Activettes’ Share your Christmas will also be on hand. Food Bank donations accepted. The following day will be the Christmas Market at the Cochrane Ranchehouse from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a great diversity of fine crafts, jewelry, home furnishings, decorations, clothing, photography, art, and much, much more. 100 vendors for a $3 entry fee. Food bank donations are welcome. NOVEMBER 24 From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a Christmas artisan market at the Frank Wills Memorial Hall. This year, they are featuring 30 + unique, handmade and homemade vendors while the Cochrane Lioness Christmas Craft Market at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre will be going at the same time. Admission for the event will be $2 with door prizes as well as soup and sandwiches available for lunch.
