The month of August means summer is coming to a close and the start of the upcoming school campaign is near. The Town of Cochrane still has plenty of activities throughout the month to wrap up the season though and kick off the fall. AUGUST 6 Capture the Flag Paintball and Helping Families Handle Cancer are pleased to announce their fifth annual cancer charity event, Shooting For A Cause 2018. This event will be a fun-filled day of scenario paintball for those of all ages & skill levels and a portion of the proceeds to Helping Families Handle Cancer Foundation. AUGUST 10 AND 11 On Aug. 10 and 11 Cochrane’s Wellness Weekend – a community centred wellness event will be taking place. ELEVATE aims to partner with local businesses to provide community members a unique opportunity to learn more about what Cochrane businesses have to offer, to engage with their community and ELEVATE their sense of well being. The Calgary Police Rodeo will take place at the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Grounds on Aug. 11. The rodeo grounds open at 8 a.m. with a free children’s carnival with the rodeo action kicking off at 1 p.m. and tickets are available at the gate on the day of the rodeo. The rodeo will be followed by the ever popular barn dance which will also be taking place at the rodeo grounds, starting at 8 p.m. Also on Aug. 11 will be the monthly Clubhouse Art Walk taking place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse located at Historic Cochrane Ranche. The event gives local artists show and sell their work, giving Cochrane and area art lovers the opportunity to meet the artists and learn about their creations. AUGUST 16 The Cochrane Farmers’ Market in partnership with the Historic Downtown Cochrane businesses invite you to experience a unique shopping experience in our Historic Downtown as part of the Cochrane Street Market from 5 p.m. to 9. Enjoy market vendors, artisans, food trucks, music, buskers and late night shopping at local businesses. AUGUST 17, 18, 19 On Aug. 17 to 19 the Cochrane Agricultural Society Grounds will be hosting the Cochrane Fair. It will feature the Excel Homes Special Events Stage, Children Fun Zone, lots of equestrian events including Jackpot Team Roping, a Midway by Wildrose Amusements, a great “Market Place”, and tons of other activities. Gates open on Friday at 4 p.m. and at 9 a.m. on the remaining two days. Cochrane Classic Bull-riding will be on Aug. 18 for an evening of thrilling professional bull-riding. Bull-riding begins at 7 p.m,. followed by a beer garden and dance. Advance tickets for the Cochrane Classic Bull Riding Event will be available very soon at Tony’s Western Wear and Dry cleaning by Dave. Bull Riding Advance Tickets, which include the $5 Fair admission, will be $30. Rush tickets will be sold inside the Fair at the Bull Riding Arena entrance for $30 but do not include Fair Admission. Bull Riding Arena Entrance Gates will open at 6 p.m. Dance only tickets after the bull riding event are $15. Also on Aug. 18 will be the SpringHill Annual Charity Show and Shine Classic Car Show at SpringHill R.V. Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be live music, 50/50 Draw, door prizes and all proceeds benefit the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. AUGUST 31 The Slimdor Ranch Rodeo will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 at the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Grounds. Admission is free to see Cochrane's local ranchers compete in different events.
