Chinook Film Group is continuing its Fall Series with the screening of Boundaries on Oct. 17 at the Cochrane Movie House. Boundaries is a 2018 road trip comedy-drama film written and directed by Shana Feste. It stars Vera Farmiga, Christopher Plummer, Lewis MacDougall, Bobby Cannavale, Kristen Schaal, Christopher Lloyd and Peter Fonda. The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 12 and was released in the United States on June 22 by Sony Pictures Classics and in Canada on July 6. Single mom Laura, played by Farmiga, along with her awkward 14 year-old son Henry (MacDougall) is forced to drive Jack (Plummer), her estranged, care-free pot dealing father across country after he's kicked out of yet another nursing home. The road trip veers off course when Jack decides to make a couple 'stops' and Henry asks to see his ne'er-do-well dad Leonard (Cannavale), completely upending Laura's attempt to hold her family together and ultimately forcing her to finally see her father for the man he really is. Farmiga, who is known as the star of the Boundaries film began her career on stage in the original Broadway production of Taking Sides in 1996. She made her television debut in the Fox fantasy series Roar the following year, and her film debut in the drama-thriller Return to Paradise in 1998. Farmiga made her directorial debut in 2011 with the acclaimed drama film Higher Ground, in which she had a leading role. Farmiga's breakthrough came in 2004 with her starring role as a mother harboring a secret drug habit in the drama Down to the Bone. She received further praise for the drama film Nothing But the Truth in 2008, and won critical acclaim for playing Alex Goran in the 2009 comedy-drama Up in the Air, for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award, SAG Award, BAFTA Award, and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Farmiga also had starring roles in the political thriller The Manchurian Candidate in 2004, the crime drama The Departed in 2006, the historical drama The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas in 2008, the romance drama Never Forever the following year, the romantic comedy Henry's Crime in 2010, the science fiction thriller Source Code, the action thriller Safe House in 2011 and 2012, and the biographical drama The Front Runner in 2018. Boundaries made $29,995 from five theaters in its opening weekend, for an average of $5,910 per venue. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 51 per cent based on 61 reviews and got an average rating of 5/10. Tickets for the movie are available for $10 at The Gentry Espresso and Wine Bar.
