Chinook Film Group is ready to roll with its Winter Series Kickoff Reception following the screening of The Trip To Spain on Jan. 17 at the Cochrane Movie House.
The Trip to Spain is a 2017 British comedy film written and directed by Michael Winterbottom. It is the third installment of Winterbottom’s dramatic T.V. series The Trip, following The Trip, which was made in 2011, and The Trip to Italy, which was created in 2014. The film stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as fictionalized versions of themselves continuing their culinary travels away from home … it was released Aug. 11, 2017.
The original film labeled The Trip depicts Coogan and Brydon tooling around a country sampling sites and restaurants, portraying themselves as food critics for newspaper pieces. The two play versions of themselves which centers around the personal and professional anxieties of the two men. Coogan is more famous than Brydon and has the inflated ego to go along with it, but he is also more insecure about the state of affairs than his fellow partner.
Coogan convinces Brydon to go on a trip through Cantabria, the Basque region, Aragon, Rioja, Castile La Mancha and Andalucia – all autonomous communities in Spain – drawing back on the journey that Coogan took as a young man. The pair sample the best of region’s gastronomic offerings between rounds of their off-the-cuff-banter. On their journey, the pair contemplate history, fame and fatherhood.
As for reviews, on Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 83 per cent based on 77 reviews, with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10 … on Metacritic the film has a weighted average score of 66 out of 100, based on 31 critics, which indicates ‘generally favourable reviews’. Joshua Rothkopf of Times Out New York gave the movie the three out of five stars and David Ehrlich of IndieWire gave it a B+.
Tickets are available for $25, which includes admission to the film and the reception. They will be available at The Gentry as well as Tea and Other Things.
