Chinook Film Group is back to bring An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power to the Cochrane Movie Theatre Oct. 18.
The film is a 2017 American documentary directed by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk about former United States Vice-President Al Gore’s continuing mission to battle climate change. It is the sequel to An Inconvenient Truth, which was released in 2006.
The movie addresses the progress made to tackle the problem and Gore’s global efforts to persuade governmental leaders to invest in renewable energy, culminating in the landmark signing of 2016 Paris Agreement which deals with greenhouse gas emissions mitigation, adaptation and finance starting in the year 2020.
An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power was released July 28, 2017 by Paramount Pictures.
In December of 2016, Al Gore announced that a follow-up to the original movie would open at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. The film is screened in the Climate section, which became a new section for movies featuring climate and the environment.
On review website Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has an approval rating of 78 per cent based on 132 reviews, with an average rating of 6.6 out of 10. On the site Metacritic, the film has a score of 68 out of 100, based on 36 critics, which indicates there were generally favourable reviews.
On the Rotten Tomatoes website, the group gave the movie a good review.
“Gore travels around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy,” the review says.
“Cameras follow him behind the scenes-in moments both private and public, as he pursues the empowering notion that while the stakes have never been higher, the perils of climate change can be overcome with human ingenuity and passion.”
The movie grossed $3.5 million in the United States and $1 million in other countries for a worldwide total of $4.5 million, against a production budget of $1 million. On its opening weekend, it grossed approximately $124,000.
