A new crime series from creator Stacie Harrison is reaching a larger audience thanks to a grant from STORYHIVE, a Canadian company that helps support and mentor amateur filmmakers.
Harrison, who is from Cochrane, is part of a team to receive the $10,000 grant.
Harrison and her team will use the money to produce their web pilot series called Faultline. It is a dark, sexy crime and suspense series focused on the Tennant sisters whose lives are shattered when their mother is arrested for manslaughter, which eventually leads her to commit suicide upon incarceration.
Aside from acting in the series, Harrison also directs and produces.
Out of the 215 entries, Faultline was selected as one of the 30 finalists from both B.C. and Alberta … the pilot will be available in March of 2018 on Telus Optik TV on Demand as well as on storyhive.com.
Harrison was overjoyed with the fact that her series was one of the 30 selected.
“We are so passionate about this story – a dark, gritty, suspense drama that focuses on three strong, female, characters, the Tennant sisters,” Harrison said.
“Being a winner in the competition confirms that this is a series audiences want to see, it’s really great. Telus’ support of our project does not stop at funding our pilot episode; they also provide mentorship through National Screen Institute (NSI) and initial distribution through Telus Optik,”
STORYHIVE has helped bring many films to life online and to audiences around the world.
“These opportunities will help us make the most compelling, quality series and ensures that our work will be seen by a larger audience which is truly the goal of all filmmakers.”
The team will now enter the next stage of the program and compete for an additional $50,000 grant to bring their full web series to life. Fans of the pilot will vote and select one finalist from each province as the overall winners… the two top winners will also receive customized career training, mentorship and distribution opportunities.
Voting for the second stage will open in February 2018. Voting can be done at www.storyhive.com.
