By Jane Kaczmer Special to the Eagle Winter is upon us and Cochrane Music Society’s ensembles is excitedly preparing for its upcoming Music of Christmas concert. Join us at Bow Valley Baptist Church Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of fun and entertainment that will boost the spirit of the season. Choral Waves choir has put together a varied program of beautiful Christmas pieces and for something new the choir will be singing two pieces accompanied by Band on the Bow concert band. Riverside Jazz has a mix of Christmas, rock, Latin and swing genres and is eager to perform a well-known chart that has been arranged by our very own Hugh Lavallee and features our vocalist, Doug Bassett. (They are keeping the title a secret!) The Band on the Bow concert band will perform an outstanding lineup of music by the classically loved Percy A Grainger, the extraordinary David Maslanka and two Canadian composers who have won the Canadian Band Association Howard Cable Memorial Prize in Composition - Cait Nishimura (2017) and Quan Le (2018). And, of course, they will complete their part with a medley of Christmas tunes. The program will close in a finale of a critically acclaimed Christmas song (another secret! - hint Mariah Carey) by Riverside Jazz starring guest vocalist, Kelly Nesbitt of Cochrane. Come and let the Music of Christmas lift your spirit! Tickets $10 at www.cochranemusic.ca and at the door. Children 12 and under free. Remember your Foodbank donation!
