The much-anticipated 2017 Book Bash Children’s Literacy Event will hit the road and land at the Cochrane Public Library for one magical day Oct. 21.
At the TD Summer Reading Club’s final party on Aug. 26, librarian Andrea Johnston announced the library will be the host for the 2017 Book Bash.
“We knew we could handle an event of this scale because of Medieval Days,” Johnston said, referencing the library’s annual event that features demonstrations from knights, crafts, story events and more.
The library couldn’t wait to share the exciting news with the community and thought the year-end party would be the perfect time.
“It was tough because we were so excited to share it with the public,” Johnston said about trying to keep the secret. “We wanted to yell it from the roof tops.”
Book Bash is a free children’s literature festival organized by the Toronto Public Library to promote the importance of children’s literature to Canadian families.
Every second year, libraries from around Canada can apply to be the host of the event and when staff from the Cochrane Public Library started the application last year. They couldn’t have been be more thrilled to be chosen.
“I hope they are really excited,” Johnston said about the children and families who will attend. “They will have the opportunity to meet award-winning authors.”
Special guests attending include children’s performer Fred Penner and authors Carrie Stanton, Joan Galat, Rukhsana Khan and Calum Lykan.
This will be one magical day filled with fun and learning. Just a few things happening at the event will include a magic show, author meet and greet, photo booth, bouncy castle and free books.
“The day is to celebrate literacy,” Johnston stated of the importance these types of festivals. “Get the magic of reading back into them.”
