Bragg Creek Performing Arts is pleased to announce that master guitarist Don Ross will be performing on Oct. 14 at the Bragg Creek Community Centre.
Ross, who is from Montreal was born into music. His father is an operatically trained singer with a fondness for playing the bagpipes. At an early age, Ross was playing the piano and eventually studied music at Toronto’s York University where he focused on composition, electronic music and sound recording.
“Growing up, I was always a fan of music, and have been lucky to be able to perform all around the world,” Ross said.
“I was a very musical child, and I taught myself some basic piano skills in my younger years.”
In 1988, Ross became the first Canadian to win the U.S. National Fingerpick Guitar Championship, while also winning again in 1996. He is still the only two-time winner of the competition.
Ross has toured throughout the world and has collaborated with a number of artists in addition to composing scores for television, radio and film, along with producing and recording engineering for a variety of other musicians.
Besides acoustic guitar, Ross plays electric, slide dobro, lap steel, harp and bass guitars, while also playing the piano, keyboards and drums.
He has many albums, the latest of which is called A Million Brazilians. His album Huron Street reached the top ten on the Billboard New-age chart.
Ross will leave Bragg Creek shortly after his performance to tour in Korea and Japan.
