Cochranites wanting to get in on the premiere of a new web series with some local flair should head down to Calgary's Plaza Theatre for the opening of Faultline on Feb 4.

The pilot of the locally produced murder mystery web series will also be available for viewing from Feb. 5 to 9 on the STORYHIVE website and eventually free on demand on Telus Optik TV…. those dates will be released at a later time.

Faultline is a dark, sexy crime/suspense series focused on the Tennant sisters whose lives are shattered when their mother's arrest for manslaughter leads her to commit suicide upon incarceration. With their world blown apart, the sisters' grief, shame, and intensely personal reactions drive them to lead separate lives. Fifteen years later, Paige, a highly successful corporate lawyer, stumbles across new information that appears to call into question their mother's involvement in the crime. As this discovery leads the sisters down a dangerous rabbit hole of lies and deception, can they work together to overcome the past and, most importantly, stay alive long enough to uncover the truth?

Cochrane native Stacie Harrison, who produced, directed and plays the role of Paige Tennant in the series, says this film is really important to show that women can be the lead stars.

“This is an exciting time for women in film, ” Harrison said.

“We were thrilled to be able to lead a project that stars three strong, capable women and has so many women working behind the scenes as well. ”

“I love playing Paige in Faultline. It's so rewarding to play such a complex and driven character who has to question everything she knows or thinks she knows, to discover the truth. ”

Kristen Lankester, who also is one of the producers as well as acts in the web series, said there was a lot of hard work that went into being able to put a quality show on for the viewers.

“We are eager to showcase the immense talent of both our cast and crew on Faultline. The level of expertise involved has created such a high-quality production, and we're certain that viewers are going to be hooked … you can't help but be drawn into the mystery of what happened and who did what, ” Lankester said.

Lankester also added that Calgary was the perfect location to shoot the series.

“As the creator and writer of Faultline, I drew on my experiences of over 15 years in the energy and mining sector in Calgary. Setting our story specifically in Calgary allows us to draw on the energy and drive of the corporate world here while also exploring a fictional underbelly of wealth, greed and the pursuit of success. ”

The first airing of Faultline was made possible after the series was selected as one of 30 finalists from 215 entries to receive $10,000 in funding for pilot episodes. The team will now enter the next stage of the program and compete for an additional $50,000 grant to bring their full web series to life. Fans of the pilot will vote and select one finalist from each province as the overall winners. The top two winners will also receive customized career training, mentorship and distribution opportunities. Voting opens in February 2018.

While this is a step in the right direction for the local group, the members of Faultline still ask that people vote for them to ensue that future episodes will be produced.

“We need the support of the local community through voting to make sure we can continue to produce future episodes as well as uncover the mystery of Eve Tennant, ” Harrison said.

“Faultline is a woman led production that aids in breaking down barriers in the film industry. ”
