With Christmas wrapped up and the New Year incoming, the community will have some events to kick off the month of January to make sure 2019 starts off with a bang. To start off, every Friday night the Legion will hold a barbecue from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be $10 steaks as well as $8 burgers with all the fixings on potatoes, beans, salad and garlic bread. Families are welcome and no membership is required. JANUARY 11 Airdrie's All Day Sugar will be performing at the Venue Bar and Grill on Jan. 11 at 9 p.m until 1 a.m. All Day Sugar is Alberta’s hottest dance n’ party band. This five-piece has been packing dance floors around Calgary, in the heart of the city and from Banff to Brooks and Lacombe to Okotoks for the past five years. Fronted by the incredible Sammi, All Day Sugar is a talented group of musicians delivering great music for any venue. JANUARY 12 The monthly Clubhouse Art Walk will take place on Jan. 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. up at the Clubhouse located at the Historic Cochrane Ranche. The event gives Cochrane and area art lovers the opportunity to meet the artists and learn about their creations. JANUARY 17 Half Hitch Brewing Company will be hosting musician Neil 'Hardwire' Speers on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. The Calgary, Alberta-native was introduced to music at a young age by his mother who would listen to jazz and classical music. Later, Neil was influenced heavily by the likes of rock acts such as Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmore as well as the acoustic talents of Doc Watson and Leo Kotke. JANUARY 19 On Jan. 19, There will be the annual Fine Arts Show and Sale from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seniors on the Bow Centre. The event is used to raise funds for the centre while also giving local artists a chance to show off their work. JANUARY 22 Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation will be holding their monthly park talk series from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cochrane Public Library. Through a unique partnership with the Government of Alberta, the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation (GRPF) supports the operations and development of Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. The talk is free for anyone to attend but donations are welcome. JANUARY 26 The Cochrane Pipe Band is hosting their 20th annual Burns Dinner at the Cochrane Ranchehouse in celebration of Scottish poet Robbie Burns. Tickets are $60 each or $480 for a table of eight. The event will include a roast beef dinner with haggis, performance by the Cochrane Pipe Band, silent auction, cash bar and dance with music by Wild Bill's D.J.
