The Month of May will be a busy one for those in the Town of Cochrane as spring has finally arrived to stay (hopefully!).
The Month of May will be a busy one for those in the Town of Cochrane as spring has finally arrived to stay (hopefully!). There have already been a few events early in the month and that will continue throughout the remaining 21 days beginning this weekend.
Farmers' Market
On May 12 The Cochrane Farmers’ Market will be heading to Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre to set up indoors for its final event before moving outdoors for the spring season. As always, shoppers will find favourite vendors from the summer markets as well as some new faces – a great way to replenish the pantry, fill the freezer or find the unique and handcrafted. This event will go from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Cochrane Music Society
The Cochrane Music Society will be hosting its annual spring concert on May 15, titled the Celebration of Music. The concert, which will held at Bow Valley Baptist Church at 7:30 p.m., will feature Band on the Bow, Choral Waves, and Riverside Jazz. Tickets are priced at $10 and are available on the society's website or at the door. Donations to Cochrane Food Bank are also welcome.
Art, horses and amusement
May 19 will be one of the busiest days of the month with a number of activities planned throughout the day. Starting off, the Town of Cochrane will be hosting its monthly Clubhouse Art Walk from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clubhouse located at Historic Cochrane Ranche, local artists show and sell their work, giving Cochrane and area art lovers the opportunity to meet the artists and learn about their creations.
This event will be followed up by the Cochrane Agricultural Society's Pace and Chase event. Pace & Chase is a fun, competitive horse riding event inspired by fox hunting. Ride alone or with a team over varied terrain and try to complete the course as close to the optimal time as possible. It will be taking place throughout the day at Cochrane Agricultural Society Grounds.
Finally, Calaway Park is hosting its Grand Opening for this spring, summer and fall season which will take place on both May 19 and 20.
Show and shine
The third annual Cochrane Spring Show and Shine will take place May 26 at 204 - 5th Avenue West "Under the Big Flag. This free event is open to all makes and models of cars, trucks and bikes, while also including food vendors and beer gardens. Non-perishable food items or cash donations are accepted. The show will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Baby animals
To end off the month on May 27, the Alberta Institute of Wildlife Conservation will be hosting a “Baby Shower” on-site talk from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Come celebrate spring at AIWC for a special talk and tour, all about baby animals. Discover the wide variety of babies that we look after, the special care that many species require, and what you can do to help baby animals in your own backyards. A tour of sections of the AIWC facility will follow this presentation.
