Teatro dell’Eco will open up its second season with Pinkalicious the Musical, which is coming to the Cochrane RancheHouse Theatre.
Based on the popular children’s book written by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann, Pinkalicious is about a girl who loves the colour pink, and cannot stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents … her pink indulgence lands her in the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe, a dream come true for a pink-loving enthusiast. But when Pinkalicious’ colour goes too far, only she can figure out a way to get out of her very pink predicament.
Artistic director of the production JP Thibodeau says the purpose of the play is to introduce children to good habits in their lifestyle.
“Basically, the story is about strong morals and family values … don’t eat to many sweets, eat your vegetables and listen to your parents,” Thibodeau said.
“The most important thing that we want, is to get families and kids out enjoying theatre at an early age and to get the ins and outs on how theatre works.”
Thibodeau also added that the Calgary group is making its first appearance in the surrounding communities and highlights the fact that they were brought in by Teatro dell’Eco.
“Teatro (dell’Eco) is presenting us, so we’ve been brought in to do the show. We’re branching out by touring our shows, so different theatre companies in local communities who may not have that type of programming are bringing us in to do shows.”
Tickets for the show will be $25 for adults and $20 for children ages 10 and under and are available either through brownpapertickets.com or by calling 403-851-2534.
The next production brought to Cochrane by Teatro dell’Eco will be a silent theatre by Small Matters Production on Feb. 3 called Over her Dead Body.
