The Gentry Espresso and Wine Bar will be welcoming The Silkstones on July 13.
The Silkstones are an indie-rock group from the Lethbridge and Calgary area, consisting of core members Ryan Phillips and Dylan Jerome Wagner, the two developed an honest and focused song writing relationship by becoming great friends not only in the band, but being supportive in their personal lives as well. Together, they push each other in their song writing limits further and further, which has matured the band’s sound. Their outlook on music has always been to take the art seriously and to have depth and thoughtfulness while songwriting.
In 2014, Ryan Phillips wrote the first album Record Machine in Lethbridge’s Silkstones Close, which is where Phillips got the name for the group from his street address. The band was formed around these songs and composed of original members Rus Andrew and Blake Lowry.
Dylan Wagner joined the band in November of 2015 and the band immediately released a single project with Canadian singer and songwriter Leeroy Stagger called House on Fire later in the year and followed the singles up with the sophomore extended play record (EP) called Her in 2016. Her had the band utilize a more collaborative approach and the album also gave the Silkstones their first Western Canadian tour and got local press for their release.
With the departure of Rus Andrew and the additions of Skyler Bjorn Benoit-Jones and Megan Brown the group focused on a follow up to Her and self-produced the first full-length album titled The World Began with a Yes last year in 2017. The album went to get the band another western tour and further acclaim.
Always expanding the band has recently grown to include Christina Prakish on bass and electric guitar player Joel Gray. The band is currently touring Alberta and writing their most ambitious project to date.
Tickets for the Silkstones 8 p.m. performance will be priced at $10 per person and are available at The Gentry and eventbrite.com.
