Half Hitch Brewing Company will be hosting many bands and musicians at their establishment over the summer, including a wide variety upcoming in the next few weeks starting on June 14 with Fromage Chaud. FROMAGE CHAUD Fromage Chaud is a duo featuring Linda Kitchin and Darcy North. Kitchin is a dazzling string player on mandolin and violin, while North is a virtuoso accordionist. This duo has already had a number of interesting performances: playing at the National Music Centre, several festivals including Beakerhead, at the Centre for the Performing Arts and the Elemental Table, East Coulee Springfest, the Chinese Downtown Street Festival, Marda Gras, the Korean Festival, Water Valley Celtic Festival, many clubs and cafes, numerous private parties, corporate events, weddings and other venues where they showcase their incredible repertoire of world beat, traditional, jazz and old time music. Kitchin and North have known each other for many years. They played together in Take the Oy Train and Sheer Musica and decided to form Fromage Chaud in 2012. Linda has played in Stealth, a Celtic band, Roots and Boots, a country folk and western band, The Amazing Kitchin Band and Conor’s revenge, folk Celtic fusion bands. North has worked in Dance Calgary’s Orquestra Libertango and Arthur Lapp’s German Knights. The duo came out with their first album in 2017 titled Klezmer À La Fromage Chaud while also coming out with Cheese Balls in early 2018. Fromage Chaud's show starts at 7 p.m. and is free to the public. MEGAN DAWSON Megan Dawson is a Calgary-born country music playing singer and songwriter. She has performed her original music throughout Calgary and the Foothills at coffee houses, cafes, pubs, open mic's as well as local contests including a semi-finalist appearance in Country 105's Rising Star competiton in 2017 and 2018, and in the 2017 Stampede Talent Search. Dawson's free show at Half Hitch will take place June 28, starting at 7 p.m. MICHELA SHEEDY If you are looking for soulful, sultry, country music; look no further. Okotoks born and raised, Michela Sheedy represents a steely edge to the Canadian country music scene.
Sheedy has graced some of the most esteemed stages in Alberta including performances at the legendary Ranchman's, Cowboy's Nightclub, Big Valley Jamboree, Country Thunder and the Coca-Cola Stage at the Calgary Stampede. In the summer of 2017, Sheedy was titled winner of 96.5 CKFM Country Star Search. Michela recently won the grand prize in the 2018 Global Country Star Search. She has been a finalist in a plethora of Alberta talent competitions including: Calgary Stampede Talent Search, Ponoka Stampede Talent Search, Nashville North Star Competition and Country 105's Rising Star Competition.
Sheedy makes her community a priority. You can frequently find her visiting local foothills' country music station, 99.7 Sun Country. She regularly, and proudly, represents the NHL and the Calgary Flames as a performer of the Canadian and American national anthems. She contributes to efforts in fundraising for Calgary-based charities including Gems for Gems and the Alberta Music Education Fund.
Sheedy's powerful showmanship and distinguishable vocals will be cutting the trail for her as she continues the creation of her debut EP scheduled to release fall 2019; a project that is highly anticipated, and certain to make a lasting impression on her quickly growing audiences.
Sheedy will be playing two free shows at Half Hitch in the coming months, her first coming on July 3 starting at 7 p.m.and the second coming on Sept. 18.
