The Town of Cochrane will be hosting a ClubHouse Art Walk on Jan. 13. The art walk will be used as a chance for local artists to show and sell their work, and for Cochrane art lovers to meet the artists and learn about their creations.
This version of the art walk will be a little bit different according to Arts and Culture Programmer Jola Muran.
“The concept of the ClubHouse Art Walk was to include the park as apart of the potential art walk. We had our first launch during the farmers’ market back in the fall, which it led people up the road to the ClubHouse,” Muran said.
“We thought to further that experience we needed to include outdoor art, so we have our first out-door sculpture garden, which will be presented this weekend during the walk with Studio West (Bronze Foundry and Art Gallery). They’re excited to be part of it so they’re bringing a medium sized sculptured to be placed on the deck to go along with the work done in the sculpture garden.”
“The Art Walk also now has something called a featured artist and we chose Studio West. The first floor as you walk in, will create a bit of education and show smaller work, and then the second floor will be the artist’s show and sale, where we have six artists presenting their work.”
The six artists include: Daniel Schaab, Grina Groot, Chris Swann, Andy Macdonald and Rose Gniewek.
Muran also said they wanted to incorporate a community tour aspect into the event, which is supposed to give families an adventure all across town.
“With this art walk, we not only included the sculpture garden, but also will be providing a map to the downtown because Studio West has several pieces downtown,” Muran said.
“We’re looking to grow the art walk and there will be fixed event that will happen every month. We’re starting it with this launch of the walk this weekend.”
Muran also said the event will go regardless of the weather.
“We’re expecting snow and after speaking with the artists from Studio West, they are intrigued by the snow and that the bronze sculptures … are indestructible in any weather,” Muran said.
“We plan to go on rain or shine, and there’s lots of indoor places on the map too.”
“It’s a great opportunity to dress up warm and get out and do something active. That’s why we never just strictly went with the art gallery, which makes it sound like it’s indoors. We want to get people excited to dress up for the weather and come see the art that we have.”
The art walk is planning to go from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
