With May wrapping up and June right around the corner, the Town of Cochrane has plenty of events planned for the month of June starting early in the month. To kick off the month, there will be fixtures taking place every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Fridays the Cochrane Legion will be holding a barbecue from 6 to 7 p.m. with no membership required and families welcome. On Saturday mornings, the Cochrane Farmers' Market will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Historic Cochrane Ranche Site, with the first one taking place June 2. There will be a free Historic Walking Tour every Sunday that starts at 2 p.m. facilitated by volunteers from the Cochrane Historical Preservation Society and Visitor Information Centre staff volunteers. The tour will begin at the Cochrane Visitor Information Centre and will take place every Sunday from June until September. Also taking place on Sundays will be the Bearspaw Farmers' Market at the Bearspaw Lions Clubhouse. On June 2 and 3, the annual Footstock event will take place. Western Canada's premier race featuring a five kilometre run or walk, 10 kilometre run or walk, individual duathlon, duathlon relay, half marathon and kids triathlon. June 8, 9 and 10 will busy for the town, which will kick off with a Doors Open Cochrane event, which is a behind the scenes look at town facilities and local businesses and organizations. This will take place both June 8 and 9 and is a free event for the public. June 9 will host the monthly ClubHouse Art Walk from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. At the Clubhouse, located at Historic Cochrane Ranche, local artists show and sell their work, giving Cochrane and area art lovers the opportunity to meet the artists and learn about their creations. To finish off the weekend on June 9 and 10, there will be an Extreme Cowboy Show at the Cochrane Agricultural Society Grounds ... the show will be going on all day and spectators are welcome. On June 16 the Alberta Conservation Association will be holding a Kids Can Catch event, a free family fishing event at Mitford Pond from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. kids who are 15 and under can take their fish home while kids 16 plus must catch and release. There will also be a Fly Fishing School starting up on the 16th and will continue on June 17, 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Town of Cochrane Club House and at the Bighill Springs Creek Picnic Area. The afternoon portion of the event, which will go until 3:30 p.m., will be at Mitford Ponds. There will be fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout. On June 21, the Cochrane Farmers’ Market in partnership with the Historic Downtown Cochrane businesses invite you to experience a unique shopping experience in our Historic Downtown. Enjoy market vendors, artisans, food trucks, music, buskers and late night shopping at local businesses. The market will take place on First Street from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. To end off the month, the Alberta Institute of Wildlife Conservation (AIWC) are hosting a 'Scintillating Skunks" on-site talk from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Think all skunks are the same? Come out to AIWC for this skunk-themed talk and tour, and learn about the different lives urban and rural skunks. They will also delve into why skunks spray, how best to get along with the skunks in your area, and how AIWC can rehabilitate more than. 50 baby skunks every year. A tour of sections of the AIWC facility will follow this presentation.
