Wolfdog Quinn from Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary is howling her way into show biz after being cast in an episode of the Canadian television drama Heartland.
“For their storyline, they needed an injured wolf,” said Georgina De Caigny, the founder and executive director of Yamnuska. “Quinn fit the bill – she looks very wolf, but … they also needed one that was calm and comfortable.”
Quinn is a high content wolfdog who, along with her two brothers, were transferred to Yamnuska from Idaho as puppies in the summer of 2016.
De Caigny said that high content wolf dogs are shy and afraid of humans, but with Quinn being socialized since she was a puppy ¬– she has become the ultimate exception.
“Quinn is definitely the most unique wolfdog,” De Caigny said of her loving and sweet dominator. “She’s the opposite of what wolfdogs should be.”
“She’s one in a few.”
Her two brothers –Aspen and Grizz– who have also been socialized since puppies aren’t as tranquil as their sister but, are still quite content around humans.
De Caigny said Aspen has more of a “shy and reserved” nature while Grizz is the big brother and “jock” of the pack.
“She’s the cuddlier of the pack,” De Caigny said. “She’s constantly cuddling with her brothers.”
Quinn has a few unique traits that general manager Alyx Harris of Yamnuska said sets her apart from the others – the one she especially loves is Quinn’s excited chirp.
“We call her our little bird,” Harris laughed. “Quinn is quite different…she is so excited to see you … she’s just awesome.”
You can catch Quinn rising to stardom on season 11 of Heartland on CBC.
