A poem for candidates

A little poem to sum up how I’m feeling about electing a new mayor... A Rock and a Hard Place We’ve got Jeff or Ivan, Ivan or Jeff, Unfortunately they seem to be equally deaf.

A little poem to sum up how I’m feeling about electing a new mayor...

A Rock and a Hard Place

We’ve got Jeff or Ivan, Ivan or Jeff,

Unfortunately they seem to be equally deaf.

For years, Jeff has not shown up in community,

While Ivan has stayed focused on personal opportunity

Sorry Tom, I admire your persistence

But how about getting a little more experience?

Live more life and you’ll be easier to endorse,

Run for council, get a mortgage or like lots of us, maybe even a divorce?

Public engagement just gets in Ivan’s way

Sadly people are useful only if they hold sway

He’s got a clear vision—there’s a quarry of evidence,

He’d have more developed if not for pesky residents

Jeff counts on winning cause Ivan he’s not,

But leading this town should inspire more thought

He lacks sincere connection and a clear vision,

What will be his framework for every hard decision?

Is it a joke to say may the best fellow win?

Is not voting really the ultimate citizen’s sin?

Will the winner decide to connect and open his ears

Or will Cochrane have to wait four more years?

Karrie Peace
