On the public pathways or on the roads remember to use a loud bell or your voice when approaching pedestrians from behind. They cannot hear you coming nor can they see you coming. Some pedestrians are hard of hearing, some do not walk in a straight line and others change direction suddenly. A bike crash with a pedestrian is an ugly event for both parties. The pedestrian will be injured and the cyclist will probably come off their bike. Please move off the pathway on your bike to pass a group of pedestrians or use your voice if that is impossible because of trees etc. When riding three abreast on a narrow country road, do allow the vehicle behind you to pass. When you are impolite, remember that you will lose and the car will win. Cyclists have been bumped off their bikes. Finally, dog owners, you need to shorten up the leash when a cyclist is passing. A dog on one side of the path and the owner/dog walker on the other side is an unsafe situation.. We can all share the roads and the pathways. Thank you for reading this letter. From a fellow: cyclist, pedestrian. dog owner, and vehicle driver. Anne Bercha
