Wasn't that a party? Saturday night proved past a doubt that Cochrane is ready for some Saturday night activity beyond going out for dinner and going home to watch a movie. Some 600 folks jammed the Cochrane Lions Club Event Centre (the old curling rink) for a rousing old hometown barn dance. People began to arrive at 7:00 P.M. to make sure they got a seat, the action on the stage did not get underway until 8:30 p.m. The action on the stage provided by the well-known TC & Company, a local country band that has played every rodeo and country dance in our area for the last 25 years. What impressed me was the diverse age group that showed up for the dance, they ranged all the way up from the 20s to the 70s and older. TC & Company played all the old standards that kept the floor full right from the get go. They even featured some guest performers. Some of the young gals showed up in fancy cowgirl dresses looking to hook a good looking cowboy no doubt. The mix of our old ranch families, town councillors, well-known seniors and some guests from out of town were all there ready to dance and dance they did. The facility is not totally suited for the job, it was after all a curling rink, but it worked. They even had to send out for porta-potties to handle the unexpected crowd. What it pointed out to me was an affirmation of my quest for much-needed expanded facilities in our town. What do you do in Cochrane on Saturday night? Well let me tell you, friend, thanks to the Cochrane Lions Club, "Have a barn dance." We are after all looked at as a country-based town with a rich history, just ask the patrons on Saturday night. Congratulations Cochrane Lions Club, you did us proud. Lets keep our Western History Alive!! Stu Bradley
