In its recent editorial, the Cochrane Eagle proudly and sanctimoniously congratulated itself saying, “Here at the Eagle we care about one thing, balance. We hope that our readers do not want a publication that will be bullied into pandering to one side of an issue or another.”
I thought I would check into the Eagle’s declaration that “we care about one thing, balance.” Taking a ruler to the paper, I found that about 104 square inches of the InBox letters were devoted to supporting the Eagle’s position on the matter as opposed to the one solitary letter, occupying about 18 square inches, standing somewhat in opposition.
Let’s see, we have 104 square inches on one side and 18 square inches on the other side of the balance. Add in the 47 square inches of the Eagle editorial and we have 151 square inches on one side and a mere 18 square inches on the other side. I would say, “Houston we have a problem!”
