Cochrane Area Events Society's WinterFest is a job well done

As a former event planner, I understand the challenges and hurdles that an organizer is faced with in regards to creating a memorable event.

Cochrane has always had a determined group of dedicated volunteers ready to carry the torch and throw themselves into the task of bringing this wonderful community a variety of events throughout the year.

The evening portion of the Canada Day celebrations is the result of those talented and brilliant members of the Recreation, Culture Arts dept. for the Town of Cochrane who, year after year, develop a wonderful and inspired evening of festivities.

Labour Day always brings a parade that is worthy of praise and deserved accolades, culminating in the hugely successful rodeo which consistently draws sold-out crowds to our vibrant town.

These are two events that are true standouts and owe so much of their success largely in part to the extraordinary contributions of a collectively unified group of people who have the successful outcome of the event as the ultimate objective.

Aside from the obvious aspects of scouting for locations, contingency plans, endless research for suppliers and recruiting an army of volunteers, in the end a cohesive planning committee is essential. I was particularly pleased to read that the Cochrane and Area Events Society had once again taken on the mantle of responsibility for this year’s WinterFest.

With Ron Knowles at the helm I am encouraged that he was able to recognize that a team is only as strong as its weakest link.

By surrounding himself with a group of volunteers, who appreciate that all thoughts and ideas should be considered, will serve him and his crew well. I wish him all the best and truly look forward to what this creative group has in store for us.

A tremendous thank you to these two groups whose outstanding efforts are truly appreciated, keep up the good work.
