Cochrane is the place to be for seniors, check out SLSFSC

Last week there was a letter in the paper titled; Not enough for Seniors. In the letter, the author says that other communities surrounding Calgary, like Carstairs, Strathmore, Sundre have superior facilities for its senior population.

Last week there was a letter in the paper titled; Not enough for Seniors. In the letter, the author says that other communities surrounding Calgary, like Carstairs, Strathmore, Sundre have superior facilities for its senior population.

The letter went on to say that the Town of Cochrane has built a swimming pool and a curling rink, which is nice, but does little to help Cochrane‘s senior population. The reader indicated that Seniors on the Bow (SOTB) has 369 senior members.

Currently Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC) has 1,800 members and of that number, 732 are seniors, 41 per cent of the membership and it’s growing every day!

In addition to these senior memberships, hundreds of seniors drop-in on a weekly basis to use the fitness centre, play pickle ball, use the track, attend one of the many group classes such as yoga, go public skating or take their grandkids to the Kid Zone with the giant inflatables.

This week, the aquatic centre is opening up and hundreds more seniors will take advantage of the new facilities for lane swimming, relaxing in the hot tub or making use of the warm water therapy pool! You might even catch the odd senior outside splashing in the spray park with a grandchild or ripping down one of the giant slides!

The curling centre ice is also going in this week and once more, hundreds of seniors will take to the ice in league play over the fall and winter.

Cochrane doesn’t have enough or isn’t doing enough for its seniors? Really. Stop in at SLSFSC any day of the week and you will find plenty of seniors exercising, socializing and playing, working on their body mind and soul.

Cochrane and surrounding area seniors are flocking to SLSFSC to take advantage of all there is to do.

They have the added bonus of having a seniors centre in the very same building. Soon they will have a second elevator that will make SOTB even more accessible.

Attention all seniors, if you are looking for a community that has lots to offer its senior population, stop looking, move to Cochrane.
