The town council’s capricious decision making reached a new level these past couple of weeks. It passed a bylaw banning the inclusion of garburators in newly-constructed homes. The usual “it will be good for the environment” was the reason.
It seems that anyone invoking such a rationale these days is believed, regardless of whether there is any data to support the claim. Instead we have more bureaucracy and more senseless bylaws. On the other hand council voted to allow building on Heritage Hills. Here is data: the town has a history of allowing developers to build on land and then handing the bill for slumping to homeowners or taxpayers.
In the face of this concrete evidence the Town approves more building on a sloped area. The developer is unwilling to be responsible for it if there is slumping for two years after home purchase. If the developer is unwilling to guarantee this, it should have raised some red flags about the viability of the project. The juxtaposition of these two unrelated decisions, and the lack of data-driven decision-making by this council is truly amazing.
