Regarding the subject letter submitted by Mr. Tex Leugner, published in the Jan. 18 edition of Cochrane Eagle, I’d like to thank him for raising your readers’ collective conscience about surviving veterans’ issues with the federal and provincial governments.
I did, however, feel that his letter was somewhat demeaning to Councillor Morgan Nagel and Alex Reed’s well-meaning intent to honour our veterans.
Granted, their notice of intent to council at its Jan. 8 meeting only referred to those whose lives were lost in conflicts. However, I would encourage all councillors and Cochranites to think of honouring veterans as a local business, Cochrane Floors & More, did in its Remembrance Day tribute that appeared in the Cochrane Eagle’s Nov. 9 edition, the wording of which follows:
“For those who leave, never to return and those who return but are never the same . . . we remember.”
