Council's lack of attention to transit a disappointment

I left the Sept. 10 council meeting disappointed in the lack of leadership shown by Cochrane’s council members and its mayor, Jeff Genung. When I arrived just after 6 p.m. expecting a meeting around transit-related topics, I found instead a lengthy discussion of a topic of interest to a minority: an extension of the Glenvista cul-de-sac. Would the banks be stable? Would the existing residents be disturbed by construction traffic? Undoubtedly, these are important issues which must be discussed– but the room was full of attendees who, like myself, left as the evening wore on with no mention of the promised transit meeting. If as much energy was devoted to the transit meeting as was channeled into this minor issue affecting 11 non-existent houses, we could undoubtedly have solved Cochrane’s transit woes in a night! As it stands, will the provincial government’s generous transit grant be wasted? Will citizens with limited mobility continue to lack a simple way to travel from one area of Cochrane to another?
