On Feb. 23, Rocky View County (RVC) council put forward a motion based on recommendations from the Feb. 2 Policy and Priorities Committee, regarding information presented by the DontDamnSpringbank group.

The motion, which was carried unanimously, requested the reeve send a letter to the premier, with a copy to the Association of Alberta Municipalities and Counties, requesting no construction commence on the Springbank Off-Stream Storage Reservoir Project until current and accurate information is provided to council.

“There were a number of items (in the presentation from the DontDamnSpringbank group) that perhaps were counter to what we’ve heard from the province,” said RVC’s general manager of infrastructure and operations Byron Riemann. “We’ve made a commitment as administration to include that information with the letter.”

Council voted unanimously to support the City of Calgary’s funding application to the Alberta Community Partnership Grant, to update the rural emergency fire dispatch system and protocols. According to administration’s report, the upgrade will assist dispatch personnel in the deployment of the mutual aid partners utilized in rural fire response, which will have a positive impact on rural fire operations.
